Definitions of nightwear

Nightwear :
Nightdresses, pyjamas, dressing gowns, bathrobes and other
garments of like nature and use. Includes garments not supplied
as nightwear but which are similar in nature and are commonly
worn as nightwear; e.g. bath robes, negligees and snuggle wraps.

Baby Garments:
Any garment which has a maximum chest measurement* of 53cm
and would normally be worn by a child under the age of 3
months.

Children’s nightwear:
Any nightwear which is designed and would normally be worn by
a person over 3 months and under 13 years. Any garment which
measures to or less than the measurements set out below could
be worn by a child under the age of 13 years and therefore must
comply with the Nightwear (Safety) Regulations 1985.

Nightdresses
Chest measurement* 91cm / Length 122cm

Dressing gowns, bath robes and other similar garments
Chest measurement* 97cm
Sleeve measurement 69cm

*Chest measurement means twice the measurement of the
garment across the chest when the garment is laid flat without
distorting the two-dimensional shape.

Adults nightwear:
This refers to any nightwear garment, which is not childrens
nightwear.
