SHARP POINT (16 CFR 1500.48 ) AND SHARP EDGE (16 CFR 1500.49) TESTING
(Metal or glass edges on articles intended for use of children under 8 years of age)

Under the U.S. federal regulations, items intended for use by children under 8 years old must not have accessible, potentially hazardous sharp points and sharp edges before and after appropriate use and abuse test.
Under Canada’s Hazardous Products Regulations, the prohibition applied to all items intended for use by children under 168 months (14 years old).

This regulations requires that all articles, items, accessories or features on products intended for use by children of all ages must not have accessible, potentially hazardous sharp points or sharp edges before and after appropriate ‘use and abuse’ testing (as further described below) to ensure that these features do not pose puncture hazards or other risks of harm to the child.
